This morning? A torrent of people hot-linking my images, stealing bandwidth. Asses. Went in and changed the .htaccess (Thanks [livejournal.com profile] misslynx for the advice!). Puts a stop to that nonsense.

Really getting tired of this.

Contact your ISP and see if they can disable off site linking for now?

Or I can lend you my 'Hello, my name is bandwidth thief' image if I can find it.

I think I have another one that says 'Hello! I directly link to images without permission!'

I've made a bunch of images up for that, like your bandwidth thief ones. It's not an epidemic yet...just another in a string of minor irks this weekend.

Wouldn't be so bad if my brain was healthy, I think.

I keep thinking of the 40$US you've made... Hope your bandwidth troubles clear up soon... and... the weekend is almost over! How's your wednesday looking?

ps... *whispering* I love HP books. *cringes from daylight*

Wednesday is clear so far, but I don't know whether or not my Mother is going to spontaneously show up tommorrow yet. Knowing her, she will, since Tuesday is our anniversary and she likes to have bad timing, along with not telling me things when they involve me somehow.

Hey, at least your Tuesday's clear. Just don't have sex, or she'll be there early! *ducking* LoL
No problem, you know me, my days are pretty full and all, but I'm sure I can sketch you in somewhere... *snerk*

Assuming you're on a UNIX server, try something like this:

http://www.xentrik.net/htaccess/antileech.php

I don't know if you've worked with .htaccess files before, but basically it's a text file at the root level of your web site (i.e. yoursite.com/.htaccess), which lets you configure various aspects of the way the web server handles your domain. Such as, in this instance, whether people can link to your images from other sites. :-)

Note that that if you want to be able to use images from your site on LJ, you'll need to add that to the list of approved domains. But thanks to their new structure with the subdomains, that doesn't mean the SA people can link to it from their LJs (if they have them) -- you can restrict it to morgandria.livejournal.com.

BTW, if your own computer is running Windows you won't be able to create a file called .htaccess there - you'll need to save it as htaccess.txt or something similar, then rename it to .htaccess when you upload it to the web server.

I'll have to have a look at it when the site actually comes up for me. I have .htaccess files on all my sites, so I don't imagine it'll be difficult to change.

Thanks! I wouldn't have known to do that.

People could also be reading this - your live journal - and taking cues from you. Perhaps you should friend lock the entries pertaining to your web site troubles for the time being.

*shrugs* The traffic has largely dropped off, and I'm not terribly concerned anymore.
One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
