My appliances are plotting against me. My notably wonky refrigerator is pulling its' favorite trick and leaking gas, so now it's losing cold, and the freezer isn't freezing. Again. IN a day or so the fridge will be WARM. What the fuck is this?

I woke up at 7, thanks to a particularily disturbing dream of being trapped in a room with a computer that was not working properly for what I apparently expected, while it sounded a hideous alarm and sang warbling melancholy songs. Then I awoke, and found it was the backbeat of another song on the radio, which I really don't like.

Woo. Perfect way to start the fucking day. >_<

If the freon system is leaking, it is time to find a new fridge. Repairs on that system don't last worth a damn.

You can save money by looking for rebuilt or used stuff. Our fridge cost 250$ and came with a 1 yr warranty. It's been going great for 5 years now, though I need to fix a damaged seal around the door (simple stuff) Look around for used appliance shops - most also give a credit when they take your old one away. It's worth a look.

It's not our fridge - it came with the apartment. We have to wait for the landlord company in Toronto to decide if we get a new fridge. As it stands, we get repairs. It sucks. Stove also needs replacement - they won't do that either. We certainly can't afford to buy appliances ourselves. This fridge, also, is our "new" fridge - we've already had one replaced for us this summer.

Currently I can't even get a hold of our property manager here in town - his number's unlisted, the number he gave us is "Unavailable" according to Rogers AT&T, and his business number has been disconnected.

I cannot WAIT until we have our own house! Mind you, that's looking like years from now. :\

Erf! Much screaming should commence along with comments about the phone number to report slumlords or how much to withhold from the rent to fix it yourself and on to what constitutes breach of contract in a lease. Sounds like they have a history of this crap and you are tired of it. *hugs* I hope things get better soon.

We don't have a lease. Never have with this company. We go month to month now. They also pay for all the repairs - we don't pay a cent for them - so if they're not smart enough to see it'd be more effective to buy a new fridge or stove rather than repair them every three months, I can't feel sorry for them. It's the same as I don't feel bad for them having to pay huge heating and electrical bills summer and winter out of our inclusive rent. They were going to winterize our BROKEN, cracked windows, never did, and thusly I crank the heat to get it all over the house, including the upstairs apartment which also has broken, cracked windows.

We also know from past experiences that here in Ontario withholding rent for not making repairs or whatever to the house is not a legal strategy. :\
We've talked to the housing board a lot.

It's just frustrating having an asshole property manager locally whom you cannot get a hold of, and avoids you except when he wants something and having the actual owners be some big-city Corporation a hour and a half from you who doesn't know you and doesn't care because it's just an investment to them. :\

But at any rate the repair guy will be here this afternoon. So at least I won't be left fridgeless and ovenless over the holidays.

One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
