Music + Gaming = Good!
Jun. 9th, 2010 03:35 pmOK. I have taken up playing a very silly, simple game. It's called Beat Hazard, and it's sort of like what would happen if Asteroids took some E and went to a rave. It is -ridiculously- fun. Basically, it plays whatever song you pick, or even a whole album, and creates things for you to shoot at while the song plays. You power up off the drops when you explode things. But the fun thing is is that your weapons are literally powered by the music. The louder you can get it, the stronger you are. The graphics are based on those music visualization type-deals - bright, strobing patterns that change colour and rythym as you go.
So far I've found it works best with metal, industrial, and 'club'-type music, but it works with everything you give it. It's not really ideal for photosensitive people like me, but if you turn the SFX down a couple notches it's tolerable. It is very addictive; you get to listen to your favorite tunes while blowing things up. I'm not sure everyone would find that relaxing, but I do. :p
