Too Many Numbers.
Nov. 21st, 2002 11:09 amI started explaining numerology, in its most basic form, to
starfallz and
metachaos yesterday. I started using names as an example. Well...that made me curious. I started going through and doing all my names.
(In case you were wondering, name numerology works by assigning each letter of the alphabet a number from 1-9. You then add up the numbers together, and if you get a double digit (except 11 or 22) you add them together. Example: Holly = 8+6+3+3+7 = 27 = 9.)
Two decent pages on basic numerology can be found here -

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heather = 11.
Rose = 3.
Parry = 6.
Heather Parry = 8.
Heather Rose Parry = 11.
So here, in this first set, I found some interesting things. Both only my first name, and my full given name, are 11's. I know not everyone uses 11's, instead reducing them to 2's...but I like 11. It's prime. :p It's also a strange number in numerology:
Elevens: Bigger than life. Wants to share their revelations with the world. Has a strong connection to a "greater good" and wants others to know about it. Is fair and just, and has bright ideals. Spiritual and strong. Tends to become self-centered at times, but is very devoted to a cause. A master life number.
That's...wow. O_o
I also found it interesting that my father's family name, my last name, makes my 11 an 8.
Eights: The money mongers. Eights are here to learn karmic lessons about money, usually the hard way. Materialistic by nature, Eights love status symbols and use them as a measure of success. The lesson of Eight is to learn not to judge all of life’s success by strictly monetary gain. Eights also need to release judgements of others and how to curb harmful competitive urges.
My father's family are SO 8's. Bankers, polititians, executive business people...it's scary how weird I get about money because of the way I was raised.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So those are my mundane names. I moved on to my magickal names next - I know some people choose theirs on a numerological basis, but mine are so comfortable to me I'd never thought about it. I decided to see.
Morgandria = 1.
WinterWolf = 11.
Morgandria WinterWolf = 3.
Morgandria's a 1. That's cool...
Ones: Are strong willed and independent. Natural born leaders. Innovative thinkers, Ones are very self-assured, up front, at times self-centered and competitive. Goal oriented, they reach to great lengths to accomplish what they set out to do.
I've always thought it was an empowering name for me anyway, taken partly from m'Lady M's name.
You get to WinterWolf, and there goes the dreaded 11 again! I was starting to get a little freaked out. 11's are supposedly rare. WinterWolf is a "were" name, as well as magickal - it's a shortened version of a longer name. The longer name is less a name than a feeling I get from the imagery I've had visions of when working with my wolf self. We'll get to the honkin' long one later.
Morgandria WinterWolf together is a 3. Now, personally, I don't see this in myself, but...what do I know?
Threes: Bright, happy, energetic people. Loves to socialize and is great at parties. Loves keeping their minds busy. Natural optimists, you look for the good in life, and you don’t get to wrapped up in worry. Threes have the gift of gab and they love to gossip. The natural born comic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So that was my magickal name. I moved on to the hella-long name that's more of a description of a scene and a feeling than anything - I know that wolves don't think the same way we do, and they certainly don't have a written structured language, so I find this name fitting. Mind you, it's long enough to need a shorter form, but it's still beautiful to me.
Caller Of Winter Storms Through Bare Branches In Moonlight = 1.
So yeah, another 1. I found that interesting. A stand alone name, as Morgandria originally was. I had one last name to go through - Branfuil, which means ravenblood. This is another name like WinterWolf, but given by working with my inner raven.
Branfuil = 11.
I think I kinda cracked and giggled at this point. Woo! 11's and 1's.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some interesting food for thought, certainly. I'm not entirely sure if it means anything at all...but it was curious enough to post in my LJ.
