I'm tired. For a normal weekend, this one seemed long. And, like most things these days, carried a curious balance.

Jason's parents moved. Their new house is very private, a home and a lovely yard in a grove of pine, cedar, beech, birch, oak and assorted other trees. When I got there Friday afternoon it was cool, nice and windy, bright, and inviting. There was a patch of wild strawberries here and there. I found lil' wolfy toys scattered through the yard. The lawn was soft and barefoot heaven! The birds sang. The yard is filled with raspberry and blackberry plants that will be LOADED with berries in a few weeks. I Changed; wanted to roll in the sandy grass and flowers, and eat berries with no hands. The wind is still as majestic as I remember; my Windy 'kin ran their fingers through my hair makin' me feel all witchy and cool.

In short, the new house totally enchanted me. I collected cedar for a smudge wand, some fallen birch branches that have a gorgeous silver-blackened cast to the wood, and paper birch bark for magickal thingies. :) There were hummingbirds, the crows all eventually found us there and sang all day, and these lovely blue-indigo-purple dragonflies were flitting about, occassionally landing on me. I am thinking that Dragonfly might be trying to teach me something...

The next day started well....Saturday we waited for people to finish shopping for the party, then went into town. I got to go to the Witch Doctor's Office, a kewl lil' pagan place in downtown Orillia, and we wandered. I came home with some new treasures, and noticed the population at the house had, like, quadrupled. Not being good in crowds, I hid in the yard for a bit. Then I discovered my glasses were gone. Not my sunglasses, but my normal very-important-to-see-with glasses. Didn't find them anywhere. Bah. MORE people showed up. Jason's mom's family is very close-knit, but if you're an outsider they are polite but very closed. S'ok - I just don't deal well with groups, esp. groups that drink a fair bit, and I was gettin' kinda anxious about mebbe dropping my glasses in the parking lots here and there, and them getting smashed. Jason, Gods bless m'love, drove me around all the places we'd been to try to find them - no luck. In doing so, though, we missed out on the main rush of dinner. Was good, but I ate toooooo much all weekend, and we ran out of bottled water too quick. Still feelin' kinda rancid.

So yeah...some folks got really drunk. Was ok, though - I went to bed early enough, and they weren't rowdy or rough or anything; just silly and having a good time. I don't begrudge them that, esp. when they gather so seldom. I think Jason's grandmother really enjoyed her birthday party, and that's what's important. It was SO hot today, though, esp. without the tarp in the yard for shade. Didn't really cool off until we got home. And just before we left Carla and Roma (Carla is Jason's cousin from his dad's family, Roma is her fiancee) came to say hi! I adore Carla - she's cool. :)

There's like one more place my glasses could be - if they're not there when I call tommorow, I have to ask my parents for new glasses. Not cheap, esp. with my damn prescription. Looks like I'm getting glasses for my birthday. :\ Ah well....at least I'll be able to see. So yeah...some good, some not-so-good....it's all about balance.

One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
