I hate hospitals. I have spend a miserable, frightening night trying to understand what is happening, and now I have my answer.

I have diabetes.

I'm still scared. I was feeling almost healthy for awhile. Now in the space of hours, I'm really not.

I need some sleep.

I'm not so freaked out about it as I was this morning. I know I can get this all sorted out, and managed. It's just somewhat overwhelming.

I feel so incredibly stupid. I have had so many of these symptoms I'm reading about on all these Diabetes pages now over the last couple years, and I totally ignored them, and the people who told me to have my blood tested. If I had paid more attention to things, then I might not have ended up at the hospital at 3 AM with swollen feet and blood pressure that's through the roof.

I wonder how I am going to change my diet anymore than I have...My ulcer was making me so sick, combined with my migraines, that I changed my eating habits dramatically. I cut out most of the starches I was eating, I don't eat many of the sugary vegetables, I can't digest bitter greens. I really basically eat protien, some vegetables I know I'm alright with, a bit of starch, very little fat, and as little sugar as I can handle. However, the way I crave sugar during the day - esp. between meals - is not surprising to me anymore.

They think I may also have something called polycystic ovarian syndrome. I really need to call the endocrinology dept. at the hospital and get an appointment sorted out.

Meanwhile, all I can do is read, and try not to get freaked out again.

-hugs- With PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), taking combined hormone birth control such as the pill, the patch, or Lunelle shots, can reduce ovarian cysts. Your doctor will probably tell you the same when you talk to him or her. Diabetes and PCOS seem to be very closely related. I'm concerned about both myself, especially with the light-headed and vertigo spells I've been having. I hope you feel well soon, hun.
One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
