Wow. What a long, strange mall it was. There were actually two - Market Village, which had the Golden Food Mart in it, and Pacific Mall, which had the Pacific Heritage Town in it.

Photos for All!

We started in Market Village. It was smaller, but had really cool stores in it. I found a very cool store filled with pens and stationery that I think Janis would love. We were waiting for Moira and Alain to arrive, so we wandered a bit and came across a really nifty little game place. Right across from it was the UGLIEST dress I have ever seen. OMG. Tangerine and sequins. >_<

The boys played Ice-Ball and I played silly betting games, and we exchanged our tickets for Sheepo notepads, pencils and pencil cases, and other assorted nonsense. When Moi and Alain arrived we went looking for The Crystal Store, thus proving white people can't read signs when we finally found it. It was closed, which sucked.

We then had fun dim-sum ordering games, and I was told for a couple items "No, you can't have that - it takes too long." O_O So confusing. Jason and Justin and Jeff had never had dim-sum, so I did some advising, looked through the book, and got some basic stuff for us. Jeff got something that resembled a gelatinous pork ball, and it wasn't so hot, but I liked my steamed pork buns. Jason also got some kind of noodles with BBQ pork, but it was too sweet for my tastes.

Jeff bought a sword. Jason went and looked at computer books, and we lost both him and Alain to the computer store for a while. After we all kinda rounded up together, we headed to Pacific Mall.

Pacific Mall was HUGE. It was so odd for us, used to traditional style malls - this place instead was like 10x10 cubes, tiny little booth stores, and the mall roof went over it like some kind of pavillion. There was an upper level, too. First we explored downstairs - very confusing to us poor white folks, who can't read Cantonese or Mandarin. Moira and I wandered on our own, looking at stone animals, incense, and the like - I saw a very cool orange dragon fountain I liked, and a little prayer hanger thingie that had a witch on it! ^_^ I also saw a computer store every ten feet. O_o Jason was in heaven because of prices. Eventually Moi and I found the pretty shinies - rocks!!! Some awesome pieces of stone in there - drool drool. Jason bought me a nice carnelian bauble.

Moi and Al had stuff to do, so after we met up and showed off rocks, she and he headed out. It was really great to see them! I only wish we'd headed upstairs before they left - it was way cool too.

After they left, we moseyed upstairs. Pacific Heritage Town was there. It's this kinda separate floor, with even smaller shops, but they're all done up in this very traditional Chinese village looking stuff. The facade had these awesome dragons all over the front, and there were little stone waterfalls with koi there, too. The boys found an arcade there, and played a few games. We started wishing we'd had lunch upstairs - there was a kick-ass sushi place up there. I tried some bubble-tea - green apple goood!! Jeff bought both a sake and a tea set from this china shop - lots of nice things, all on sale. I wanted some chopsticks but they were 'spensive. We poked around some more, and then headed back for the Market Village mall.

We played some more at the silly arcade, tried some fried bean cakes, Justin bought some cookies, Jeff bought some sake, and then we went to the grocery. WOW. So much stuff!! GIANT Pocky sticks - like 12" long! O_o You could have killed someone with one. Ribena in a juice box!! Calimansi juice! Way cool noodles and rice and sauces and snacks...although one of the aisles smelled like tinkle. >_< There were live fish in the market, too...and I so wanted to buy a whole BBQ duck. They looked too good. Of course, we found ourselves wishing we knew what some of the stuff was, because it looked interesting.

We were beat. My feet were aching. Jeff's knee was well out of whack. We headed home, and stopped off at Boston Pizza for dinner. MM! The moon was full, dancing through the thin veil of rain and clouds, and I felt the wolf coming full on - I hate it when it happens in the car. I wanted to howl, but I wasn't allowed to in the car, and it didn't feel right in the parking lot. Meh. We ended up singing to the Queen of the Damned soundtrack at the top of our lungs most of the way back to Peterborough.

Was a very cool trip - very worth it! :) We are so going again.

One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
