Canadian Thanksgiving.
Oct. 10th, 2003 09:53 amWell...it is the long weekend of Thanksgiving. At least in Canada. heh. I'd normally say if you lived here you'd understand why we do it in October - normally it's cool, crisp, all the last harvest veggies are ripe. It's perfect for a harvest festival. Except this particular weekend it's 22+ Celcius, which is not pleasant to me at all. :\
There's a full moon, though; she's speaking to me louder than normal, and I think there will definetely be some walking and howling later tonight, if I don't feel too weird about it anymore. The island coyotes and the geese sing at night, too - maybe they'll join in.
So yes...this is a harvest feast this weekend. Normally I'd not be too into it, because I celebrate the harvest twice before Thanksgiving comes, but I missed Mabon, and didn't really get that second harvest ritual/feast done. So...I will eat with my family, and celebrate it that way.
Eating - oh yes, eating. >_< Part of being a child of divorce always involves eating two holiday meals on any given major secular holiday. So...Saturday we eat at Dad's, and Sunday with Mom's family. Which is nice...sometimes. But when one can't have too many cranberries and potatoes anymore, and doesn't like turkey....well, it gets old pretty quick. Fortunetely there's usually a couple of things around that I like that I consider edible, and thus I survive. :p
So I will be off tonight, but I will definetely see you all on Monday. Fellow Canucks - Happy Thanksgiving! Everyone else - *hugs* and have a good weekend. :) Much love to my tribe, who I wish could be with me.
