I'm on a threshold of a weekend of deep thoughts, fluffy fun, and ninja photos. I feel myself perched on the edge of a different sort of Void, and while there's some trepidation on my part, I'm ready to spread my wings and dive in. You never know until you try, as they say.
Today is also Lughnassadh, the celebration of the first harvest. Some traditions also celebrate the festival at 15 degrees Leo, rather than by a fixed date on a solar calendar. Traditionally, this is the day that Lugh held funeral games in honour of his mother, Taillté, which is why they are called the Tailltéan Games. It is also a day where marriages were arranged, and handfastings for a year and a day were performed - a sort of trial marriage to determine if the pairing was fertile and compatible. Sometimes this festival is also called Lammas, derived from "Loaf mass" - since I'm not christian, I use the gaelic word for the holiday. Corn dollies, grains, red flowers, and summer berries, fruits, and vegetables are some of the common symbols of this feast day. Symbolic also are the colours of the harvest: green, gold, and yellow.
I will probably celebrate this in a small rite tonight, or I might wait until the astrological date; either way, I'm happy. So much going on in the next little while, I might be better off to do it beforehand - when I get tired I get lazy, and often neglect my religious life. :\
So I'm really just trying to keep my mind occupied today - I am really just waiting for tommorow. Heh. After tonight, I'll be online sporadically, as my tribe will be here until Tuesday the 6th. Just drop me a line in email or on my Ezboard, and I'll get back to ya. I'll be posting some pics and whatnot at some point from the weekend, so stay tuned!
