questions answered

When I'm getting ready for a reading, I generally do three things. One, I clear my workspace, physically and energetically. Two, I ground, center, and generally put myself on a balanced footing. Three, I focus my energy while shuffling the cards with intent.
Intent can be as simple as being an open channel for whatever wants to come through, or can be specifically focused by asking a question. If it's a reading for another person, I generally try to attune the cards to that person first - I shuffle and visualize their face, or the things I associate with them. Then I'll either open the cards up to whatever is gonna come through, or I'll ask the question on the other person's behalf.
If I'm doing more than one reading in a day I like to space them out a bit, and I'll smudge the cards or cleanse them in between.

Date: 2008-04-06 12:27 pm (UTC)Part of my preparation is unfolding the cloth that I keep my cards wrapped in (I nearly always do readings with cards). I also use the cloth to lay the cards out onto.
But I also make my movements slow and careful and my voice slow and low. I use a different voice when I read, and different body language.
I've been doing it so long, I think, that just the slightly ritualized actions I take are a key to putting my mind in the right state. I just sort of slip out of normal thinking, and watch what happens, paying just the amount of attention necessary.
