1) The only thing I've really found on Facebook is that the majority of the girls I went to school with that got married hyphenated their name. It seems like my whole generation bought into the "be a liberated woman" crap. I guess if that works for you, fine, but I've discovered I really loathe the hyphenated name thing. I won't be doing it. I told J's Nanna I'd be taking J's name and I meant it.

2) Beautiful lightning last night. The system made some tornadoes in the south, but if they'd not gone south they'd have come straight across us. It's still wicked hot, but the humidity is better. And my migraine left.

3) My nasturtiums are starting to bloom! They survived the drought enough to get flowers - victory is mine.

4) Lonely and bored a lot of the time. Yay me. Waiting for the Gemboree is killing me.

1. The only reason I hyphenated my last name was because I'm the last generation to carry it. Actually, I'm the last one of my line... and since I'm not a male, I thought I'd carry it a little longer. :) If I had known what kind of a mess it would make of legal papers, I wouldn't have bothered though.
It's also easier to be found on facebook if you list yourself that way.
2. No storm here yet, and we've been promised one. *pout* Soooo humid.
3. Everything here is dried up and dead. I even watered. poo
4. I'm certainly not lonely here, but I'd really like the opportunity to be. I'm bored too... and have no initiative to do anything about it. Looks like we'll be missing Gemboree again this year too.

The Bancroft Gemboree - big show, full of specimens, beads, display pieces and all manner of mineral magic. I like to go every year and take advantage of show sales and beads you don't get to see that often in person. There's a guy there who mines quartz crystal in Brazil all winter, then sells all summer, and he sells by weight, virtually wholesale. He waits for me. :D

Wooooo! Now that sounds like something I'd enjoy!
I've been wanting to find some rainbow obsidian beads and decent ammolite.

I could not hyphenate my name, either way I am going to be stuck with a french last name so I don't mind taking Matt's. Facebook can be fun though, I've never found so many old friends and aquaintences before.

I would LOVE to see your Nasturtiums, mine are just starting to bloom as well but this is the first time I have ever tried growing them. :)

When is the Bancroft Gemboree? I am dying to get my hands on some more awesome gemstone cabs.

The Gemboree is August 2nd-5th; Thursday and Friday are not as busy as the weekend, and you'll have the best selection - Saturday is always busy so I skip it if I can - Sunday selection's not as good, but the close-of-show deals can sometimes make up for it. There are several sellers there with great cabs, and you can always find lots of great little treats without breaking the bank.

I'll be going on the Friday. Admission is usually between $6-8. There's no A/C in either building, and zero shade, so pack lots of cold water, and dress for the weather. Expect the place to feel like a swamp if it's raining.

I'll have to take some photos of the flowers once they've perked up a bit - the two that bloomed this week are ragged and wilted, and the one bed got smashed flat by rain today.

One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
