Fall.

It is SO fall here. Everything's beautiful and colouring and it's grey and raining and galeing.

Mm.

The Rural Expo was awesome. I won't go into detail, but it was amazing. Pygmy goats, horses, pumpkins, and apples...fabulous quilts, tractor squaredancing, lots of great Ottawa Valley music...and the smell! A mix of woodsmoke, cooking sausage, boiling maple syrup, animals, and autumn air. If I could have bottled it I would have.

Took it easy yesterday. Walked with the dog and read a book. I miss walking in the woods. I miss being woken up by 40 calling crows, and talking with them back and forth as I wander under yellowing birch. I stood out on the dock, leaning on the wooden precipice as the grey-blue river spread before me. I watched the darkening water flow past for a while, and then went back to the house. I will be spending lots of time out in the "yard" - Grandpa cut a new path back around it, and built a little bridge I have to go see. I fell asleep listening to the wind rushing through the trees and the rain pattering through the leaves.

Mm.

Anyway, I don't plan to be here online more than I just was - I have things I can be doing. Having dinner with Dad tonight, seeing my best friend again, maybe walking around town poking through shops or something. I hope everyone's well. I'm doing fine.

One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
