dreaming.

I attempted to dream of Equinox...try to get a handle on this whole "spring" thing. Historically, Ostara is a holiday I just don't really get, or enjoy past colouring eggs and eating stuff I shouldn't anymore.

What I got was...confusing. A dream about living in an apartment for a short time between places we actually lived. Someplace where Winter was receding, but hadn't quite yet left. I started walking down lanes of trees by a lakeshore, watching the sunset. My father showed up, complaining about work or lack of work or MY lack of work or something, and started taking things that weren't his to "be fixed". I kept walking, but started walking back into winter - I nearly got smacked by a sliding transport going around a corner, and remember how grey and awful everything looked. The sunset had been vibrant, but faded quickly. It seemed empty. Everything in this dream seemed empty.

I went back home, only to find it filled with people I didn't like. I started walking...everything started melting, and by the time I started seeing that I was walking in empty parking lots to a mall, it was warm and green. I went inside. Inside this building it was an odd atmosphere - windows everywhere, so lots of warm smoky light, but the decor was black...it was bright and dark at the same time. I kept walking up and down stairs inside one store, and running into all the Larpers and goth-type people I know. Some of them had kids. I was getting flashbacks of babysitting these children in the apartment we've never had, and I left.

As I left the mall, I ran into someone I knew from high school. He had long, unkempt grey hair, and a haggard face. We talked...something about his time had come to an end. He was running from it - he didn't want to die. We were in a kitchen store, by then. The person he was running from appeared from behind a display, and called him out - there was nowhere to go. The smoky windows let in light, like the rest of the mall, and the store was surrounded by green - no parking lots, no people. It was like being in a glass box. My old friend sighed as his assailant went on and on about his shiny new blades, and he chose to defend himself for some reason with a pair of antique scissors.

In the end I stood between them and officiated...when it was over both had lost, or won, and the store vanished. Blood ran over the green fields and into the rich earth beneath. I took blood and earth to my lips and was whispering something, as I woke up.

Strange.

Are we describing lucid dreaming, here?

*Interested*

You can safely assume so, unless I state otherwise.

Boy, I wish I could suggest to myself what to dream, or dream lucidly. And remember my dreams as well. Gosh, I just need some dream schoolin' in general. Morg, do you have any suggestions for practice?

Well...start simple. Make sure you're not going to bed exhausted, and make sure you're relaxed. Lavendar is your friend for this, I think - an organza pouch of lavendar flowers, or some lavendar oil on your temples is nice, too. Take the time to breathe deep, and ground before you get under the covers.

I like to get relaxed, and then start going over in my mind what I want to dream about - I'm visualizing the subject, going over all the different ideas and thoughts I have. I review the subject for a while, and then settle down into bed, letting the thoughts recede as I fall asleep.

I've never really needed to, but I know that for some people keeping a pad of paper and a pen by the bed so they can record their dreams as soon as they wake up helps.

Amethyst and moonstone are good stones for promoting dreams - keep some by your bedside, or under a pillow. If you think you really need a wallop, pick up a stone called tektite. I'll warn you, tho - for us therian-types, and Otherkin in general, tektite can be a slap upside the head. Moldavite is an even-stronger version of tektite, and it's a shiny green - it is also muy expensive. You can probably find all of these at your local pagan/New-Age store.

Aside from that, I can't really offer any advice.

Bloody damn Morg, were you here? I look outside our window and see the gray skies of winter that won't leave. Yesterday it was 70, sunshiny, happy spring day. Tonight the skies are gray and it's trying to snow. Well it is snowing, just not sticking. It's strange though because just aross the street is a group of trees, and beyond that the lake. You can walk along the shore. and winter will not leave.
One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
