I've been singing arias around the house today. Practicing something for the Toreador Ball at LARP tonight turned into a renaissance of my lungs. I'd forgotten how good it feels to glissando up and down a scale inside of one phrase in a song, and know you can to it. Still a little rusty trilling each note as I go, but it'll come. That's mostly colour anyway, and I really don't need to do it.

My cats don't seem as impressed. *LOL* I'm sure my neighbours aren't, either. Fuck 'em in the ear. :p

I'm brushing up on "No One Knows Who I Am" from Jekyll and Hyde. I started singing this piece back in 1996, before the musical had started the march to Broadway, because the song shows off my range and the tone of my voice very well. It's fairly melancholy - the female lead is wondering who will remember an unknown whore, feeling that her life is doomed. Not surprising to anyone, then, that it suits me just fine. I figure it's a good song for mood for a hallowe'en sort of ball.

I also on a whim started practicing a piece from the lesser known Kopit and Yeston's Phantom. In this musical, Carlotta owns the theatre, and "This Place is Mine" is definetely a diva-song about how it is her kingdom. It is a fast, incredibly challenging piece of music, and it ends on a high-high-high note that I am amazed and delighted to find I can still hit.

I need to start doing musical theatre again! Or something.

Heh. Anyway...I have cookies to start soon, still got some work to do for LARP, and I really need to decide what I'm doing with my hair and makeup to match my awesome new dress I'm wearing tonight. Whee! O_o Spinny Morg today.

One day you’ll walk the world
and keep in mind
The heart you’ve been given
in winter time
And through the bitter cold,
with opened eyes
You’ll find the strength to fight
and stand upright
